Rear brake hosesSafety

NHTSA opened investigation PE24-027 in October 2024 after reports of sudden brake loss from rear brake hose ruptures on Edge models. The Brake Report says NHTSA counted 64 complaints, including two crashes. Ford then filed recall 25V-544 for about 499,000 2015 to 2018 Edge and 2016 to 2018 Lincoln MKX vehicles. The rear brake jounce hose can rupture and leak fluid, which makes stops longer. NHTSA's record says interim letters went out in September 2025 and the remedy was expected in August 2026.

WE CHECK We check the VIN for recall 25V-544 and whether the final repair is done, look at both rear hoses for bulges, cracks or wet spots, check brake fluid level and test the pedal for sinking.

Front brake hosesSafety

Recall 20V-469 covers about 489,000 2015 to 2018 Edge and 2016 to 2018 MKX vehicles. The front brake hoses can rupture early and leak fluid, which makes stops longer. Dealers replace them with hoses that have a new braid material.

WE CHECK We check the VIN for recall 20V-469, look at both front hoses and check brake fluid level and pedal feel.

2.0L coolant lossCostly

Ford Special Service Message 47462 says 2015 to 2018 Edge models with the 2.0L EcoBoost may show coolant loss, white smoke or rough running. Ford tells technicians to pressure test the cooling system, check for combustion gases, and if coolant is leaking inside the engine, inspect the block and head for erosion and pitting between the cylinders. This is a service message, not a recall.

WE CHECK We check the coolant level and its history, look for white exhaust smoke at start-up, scan for misfire codes, and read the records for repeat coolant top-offs or head work.

2.7L intake valvesCostly

Recall 24V-635 covers some 2021 and 2022 Ford and Lincoln vehicles with the 2.7L or 3.0L Nano EcoBoost, including the Edge. The intake valves can break while driving, causing engine failure and loss of power. Dealers run an engine cycle test and replace the engine if needed.

WE CHECK On a 2021 or 2022 ST, we check the VIN for recall 24V-635, ask for the test results, listen for misfires or ticking and scan for engine codes.

Shifter cable bushingSafety

Recall 22V-413 covers many Ford models including 2015 to 2018 Edge. The bushing that holds the shifter cable to the transmission can wear or fall off. The SUV may not shift into the gear you pick, and it could roll after you select Park. Dealers replace the bushing and add a cap.

WE CHECK We check the VIN for recall 22V-413 and confirm the gear display matches the selector in every position, and that it holds in Park on a slope.

Torque converter studsSafety

Recalls 17V-427 and 18V-390 cover some 2017 and 2018 Edge models with the 2.0L engine and 6-speed automatic. Torque converter weld studs may be weak, and if they fail the SUV loses the ability to move. Dealers replace the torque converter.

WE CHECK We check the VIN for recalls 17V-427 and 18V-390 and listen for clunks or a loss of drive on the road test.

Power steering motor boltsSafety

Recalls 15V-250 and 19V-632 cover some 2015 and 2016 Edge models first sold or registered in salt-belt states. Road salt can corrode the power steering motor bolts, and the motor can come loose and cut power assist. Dealers replace the bolts and seal them, or replace the steering gear if bolts are broken.

WE CHECK We check the VIN for recalls 15V-250 and 19V-632, look at the steering gear on a lift and feel for heavy steering at low speed.

Air bags and seat beltsSafety

Recall 17V-123 covers some 2016 and 2017 Edge models whose driver air bag may not fully inflate or may come loose. Recall 19V-766 covers some 2019 Edge models with a badly crimped driver seat belt anchor. Recall 21V-377 covers some 2021 Edge models with a driver belt pretensioner that may not work.

WE CHECK We check the VIN for these recalls, check the air bag warning light at start and test every seat belt.

Rearview camera softwareVerify

Recall 22V-151 covers 2021 and 2022 Edge models whose camera may show a blank or distorted image, and 25V-160 fixed cars repaired wrong. Recall 26V-124, filed in 2026, covers 2021 to 2024 Edge models whose SYNC module may overheat and shut off the camera. These are software updates, by dealer or over the air.

WE CHECK We shift into reverse several times with the car warm and cold and check the VIN for recalls 22V-151, 25V-160 and 26V-124.

8-speed and AWD build recallsVerify

Recall 20V-550 covers a small number of 2019 and 2020 Edge models whose start-stop accumulator endcap may have loose or missing bolts, which can leak transmission fluid. Recall 21V-011 covers a small number of 2020 and 2021 Edge models with too little lube in the rear drive unit, which can seize.

WE CHECK We check the VIN for recalls 20V-550 and 21V-011, look for transmission fluid leaks, and on AWD models listen for rear axle whine.

Before you look at a 2021 Edge
  • Run the VIN for open recalls, with the brake hose recalls first.
  • Inspect all four brake hoses and check fluid level and pedal feel.
  • On a 2015 to 2018 2.0L, check coolant level, look for white smoke and scan for misfires.
  • On a 2.7L, listen for misfires or ticking and check the valve recall status.
  • Confirm the shifter and gear display match and that it holds in Park.
  • Test the rearview camera and all seat belts.
  • Road test for smooth shifts and no clunks from the drivetrain.

Common service bulletins (TSBs)

A TSB is a note the maker sends to dealers about a known fix. They are not recalls. We check the bulletins so we know what to look for:

Engine & DrivabilityWe check

Cold-start noise, drivability, and idle issues for this vehicle. We test for each.

Power Train · AutomaticWe check

Shift quality and transmission fluid updates. We drive every gear.

Electrical & BodyWe check

Locks, wipers, infotainment, and trim items. Small, but good to know.

Bulletins stay with the maker, so we pull the current list for this exact vehicle during the inspection and tell you what applies.

Common questions
What is the Ford Edge brake hose recall?
There are two. Recall 20V-469 replaced front brake hoses on 2015 to 2018 Edge models. Recall 25V-544, filed in 2025 after an NHTSA investigation, covers rear brake jounce hoses on the same years that can rupture and leak fluid.
Does the 2.0L EcoBoost in the Edge leak coolant?
Ford issued Special Service Message 47462 for 2015 to 2018 Edge models with the 2.0L that show coolant loss, white smoke or rough running. It tells technicians how to find coolant leaking inside the engine. It is not a recall.
When did the Ford Edge get the 8-speed transmission?
For 2019. That update also dropped the 3.5L V6 and replaced the Sport trim with the Edge ST.
Is the Ford Edge ST engine reliable?
The 2.7L twin-turbo V6 in some 2021 and 2022 models is in recall 24V-635 for intake valves that can break. Dealers test the engine and replace it if needed, so ask for proof on those years.
When did Ford stop making the Edge?
North American production ended with the 2024 model year at the Oakville, Ontario plant. Ford Authority reported the last one was built in 2024.
Can a recall be open on a used Edge even if the first owner went to the dealer?
Yes. Some recalls were filed years later, like the 2025 rear brake hose recall, and some fixes had second recalls for cars repaired wrong. Always run the VIN.
