High-Voltage Battery Health0 / 10
- State of health from a scan tool or the car's own report
- Usable capacity against new
- Cell or module voltage spread at rest
- Battery temperature sensors agree
- No isolation fault stored
- No high-voltage battery codes
- Pack case underneath: dents, scrapes, corrosion, leaks
- Pack mounting bolts
- Battery coolant level, if liquid cooled
- Range at 100% against the original rating
Readings
Read the pack at rest, not right after a drive or a charge. Compare state of health with the maker's warranty threshold, often 70% within the warranty period.
High-Voltage Safety0 / 6
- Orange cables and connectors, no damage
- Service disconnect present
- No isolation warning on the dash
- Inverter and DC-DC converter, no faults
- 12V battery condition, a common EV failure
- Pedestrian warning sound works
Readings
Charge Port and Charging0 / 8
- Charge port door and lights
- Pins clean, no burn marks or discoloration
- Port latch locks the plug
- Level 2 AC charge starts and holds its rate
- DC fast charge ramps up, if fitted
- No onboard charger faults
- Mobile connector or cable, no damage
- Scheduled charging and charge limit settings

- Battery coolant pump runs
- Heat pump or heater warms the cabin
- A/C cools, it also cools the pack on many cars
- Coolant leaks under the car
- Front condenser and radiator
- Battery cooling fan and intake vent, air-cooled hybrids
- No thermal faults

- Engine starts when the system asks for it
- Oil level and condition, fuel thinning on a plug-in
- Engine coolant
- Smooth handoff between electric and engine
- Transmission or e-CVT noise

Tires and DOT DatesAge from the DOT code
The last four digits of the DOT code are the week and year the tire was made, so 2319 is week 23 of 2019. Rubber ages whatever the tread looks like.
