Ford F-250 Inspection Guide
CP4 fuel-pump failure, turbo, and EGR cooler issues.
The 6.7 Power Stroke is a strong diesel, but the CP4 fuel pump is the big risk.
We check the fuel system, turbo, and cooling on these Super Duty trucks.
- 6.7L Power Stroke V8 turbo-diesel
The CP4 pump can fail and send metal through the whole fuel system. It's a very big bill.
WE CHECK We check for fuel-system faults and ask about any CP4 protection or past failure.
Early 6.7 turbos had problems; later ones are better.
WE CHECK We check boost, listen to the turbo, and note the build year.
The EGR cooler can clog or leak.
WE CHECK We scan for EGR faults and check coolant condition.
Cooling-system issues show up over time.
WE CHECK We check the radiator, hoses, and coolant.
The DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) system can fault.
WE CHECK We scan for DEF and emissions codes.
- Check the fuel system for CP4 health
- Note the build year for the turbo
- Scan EGR and DEF systems
- Check cooling-system condition
A TSB is a note the maker sends to dealers about a known fix. They are not recalls. We check the bulletins so we know what to look for:
Cold-start noise, drivability, and idle issues for this vehicle. We test for each.
Shift quality and transmission fluid updates. We drive every gear.
Locks, wipers, infotainment, and trim items. Small, but good to know.
Counts are pulled from NHTSA's public Manufacturer Communications file. Full bulletins stay with the maker β we use the summaries to guide the inspection.
