Turbo oil dilution, 2015 idle vibration, and AC compressor wear. We check the known trouble spots before you pay.
Buying a 2018 Honda CR-V? Smart move to check it first. The engine it has changes what matters most.
Transmission: CVT. Oil dilution complaints peak here, especially in cold states.
- 2.4L 4-cyl
- 1.5L turbo
On 2017–2018 1.5 turbo cars, fuel can get into the engine oil. It is worse in cold climates and short trips. Honda issued a fix.
WE CHECK We check the oil level, look for a level above full, and smell the oil for fuel.
Many 2015 cars shake at idle. Honda issued bulletins and updates for it.
WE CHECK We sit at idle in gear and feel for vibration through the seat and wheel.
The AC compressor can fail and send debris through the system.
WE CHECK We run the AC, check how cold it gets, and listen to the compressor.
The CVT should pull smoothly with no shudder or whine.
WE CHECK We road test it hot and scan for stored transmission faults.
The rear differential fluid needs changing and owners often skip it.
WE CHECK We check for service records and look for leaks or noise from the rear.
Salt-state cars rust underneath and around the rear arches.
WE CHECK We inspect the underbody, arches, and brake lines.

A TSB is a note the maker sends to dealers about a known fix. They are not recalls. We check the bulletins so we know what to look for:
Cold-start noise, drivability, and idle issues for this vehicle. We test for each.
Shift quality and transmission fluid updates. We drive every gear.
Locks, wipers, infotainment, and trim items. Small, but good to know.
Counts are pulled from NHTSA's public Manufacturer Communications file. Full bulletins stay with the maker — we use the summaries to guide the inspection.
